For Allen East Teachers

in

Dear Editor,

I am a long time member of the Allen East Community. I love Allen East, but I do not like the way the board, treasurer and new superintendent are treating the teachers. Allen East’s teaching staff is currently working without a contract. The teachers have negotiated in good faith with the administration. They put together a reasonable package of proposals. Their proposals focused on a wage increase, maintaining current benefits, the new teacher evaluation system, and additional items.

According to the administration, they cannot give the teachers a raise because the school’s finances may bottom out tomorrow. Allen East currently has $4.2 million in the bank. Most schools the size of Allen East do not have that much in the bank after they pay all of their bills. Bluffton has $2 million in the bank and could afford to give their teaching staff a raise. Why can’t Allen East?

Main Street Flag Project Receives Tremendous Support

in

The S.H.A.N.N.O.N. Service Club of Bluffton, in conjunction with the Village of Bluffton, the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Bluffton American Legion, says THANK YOU to the many businesses and individuals who helped to sponsor the 2014 MAIN STREET FLAG PROJECT. The cooperation among so many people who helped this project in so many ways is truly inspiring. And the stories behind the people who are HONORED and MEMORIALIZED are heartwarming.

The bright RED, WHITE, AND BLUE American Flags are waving in the breeze on Main Street. Thanks to the fantastic outpouring of support by businesses, merchants, and individuals, Bluffton once again appears to be Flag Village USA. Jerry Cupples and other American Legion members also receive our heartfelt thanks for all their work in attaching each flag to a pole and then attaching that to the street light poles.
