Michael Burdette Emans

Michael B. Emans, 64, passed away on Monday, October 5th, 2009, in Olympia, Washington. Mike was born November 1, 1944, in Bluffton, Ohio to Charles and Virginia Emans. He grew up in Bluffton where he graduated from high school.
Mike served his country in the USAF from 1964-1968. On October 21st, 1967, he married his high school sweetheart, Elaine L. Naas. They made their home in the Chicago area. They relocated to Olympia in 1977, when Mike began working for the State of Washington in computer and telecommunications management. He retired from the Department of Information Services in 2004. Mike was a devoted husband, son, brother, father, grandfather and friend. His ultimate pleasure was spending time with his family. He enjoyed many hobbies: fishing, camping, playing musical instruments and photography.
He was preceded in death by his mother Virginia. Surviving him are his wife of 42 years, Elaine; children, Eric (Heather) and Todd; father, Charles; brother Greg (Lue), brother Jeff (Alain) and sister JoEllen (Harold) Dudgeon; and grandchildren Gracie and Annie Emans.
A memorial was held Saturday, October 10th, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Brethren Church, Olympia, Washington. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial gifts to be made to Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, 218 Overhulse Rd NE, Olympia, 98502 or Providence SoundHomeCare and Hospice, 3432 South Bay Road NE, Olympia, 98506.

Frieda J. Basinger

Frieda J. Basinger, 90, a long-time resident of the San Jose section of Bisbee, passed away on September 21, 2009. Frieda was born to Albert and Johanna Klay on October 16, 1918, in Bluffton. She moved to Bisbee 39 years ago with her husband, James H. Basinger, who was hired by Cochise College in Douglas to be the aviation instructor.
Freida loved the natural habitat of her property and spent some time gardening everyday. She enjoyed corresponding with her friends and family, and was a happy, friendly person.
Frieda was preceded in death by her husband James Basinger, her sister La Donna Smucker, and her brother Roger Klay. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Lois Klay.
At her request, there will be no local services. Bisbee Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Marie Eleanor Waltz

Marie Eleanor Waltz, 87, of Mt. Cory died October 4, 2009 at Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay, Ohio. She was born March 23, 1922 to Dallas and Vola (Clymer) Hermon in Putnam County, Ohio. She married Ralph A. Waltz October 20, 1946 and he died February 14, 1993. Mrs. Waltz was a graduate of Mt. Cory High School and had worked at Triplett Corporation in Bluffton. She was a member of the Mt. Cory United Methodist Church, Wally Byam Caravan Club, Bluffton Senior Citizens, and Order of Eastern Star, Rawson. She enjoyed spending time with her family, embroidering and puzzle books. She is survived by a son, Michael (Mary) Waltz, of Rawson, daughters; Linda (Bill) Green, of Bluffton, Lora (Tobbey) Thomson, of Dunkirk, Ohio, and Lwe (Michael John) Heldman, of Rawson, Ohio, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers; Lloyd Hermon, Richard Hermon and Merritt Hermon. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Chiles-Laman Funeral Home in Bluffton. The Rev. Jerry Lewis officiated. Visitation was Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at Chiles-Laman Funeral Home in Bluffton. Interment is in Pleasant View Cemetery in Mt. Cory, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Association.

Carol E. Schifferly

Carol E. Schifferly, 67, died October 4, 2009 at Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton. She was born September 8, 1942 to William and Maybelle (Schoonover) Schifferly in Bluffton. She was a graduate of Cory-Rawson High School. Ms. Schifferly had worked at Triplett Corp. for 21 years and at the Glove Factory. She had also been a Sunday school teacher, song leader and secretary at First Missionary Church, where she was a member. She had also been a soloist for various functions. Surviving are a sister, Sandy Neuenschwander, of Bluffton, her mother, Maybelle Schifferly, of Bluffton, nieces; Tiffany (Jim) Gallant, of Cambodia, and Angela (James Morrison) Dyer, of Kenton, Ohio, a nephew, Joseph Neuenschwander, of Camp LeJeune, NC, three great nieces, and one great nephew. She was preceded in death by her father, William Schifferly. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 6th, at 2 p.m. at Chiles-Laman Funeral Home in Bluffton. The Rev. Gary Marks and Chaplain William Herr officiated. Visitation was from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment is in Maple Grove Cemetery in Bluffton. Memorial contributions may be made to First Missionary Church or Mennonite Memorial Home.
