Pirates Take Home a Win

After suffering two losses to the hands of the Elida Bulldogs and Fort Jennings Musketeers, the BHS boys respond by defeating both Ada and Defiance. A lot of teamwork and intensity allowed the boys to recover from their first week.  Also, some great offensive prowess from forward Jaden August helped as well.  August, who is in his fourth year as a starting varsity forward, surpassed Aaron Madrigal for second place on the all time goals list at BHS.  If August scores 8 more goals, he will pass Ethan Reichenbach to become the top scorer in Bluffton history.

The pirates traveled to Ada September 1st to face off against the Bulldogs after their first two losses. Pressure and communication were key as Andrew Dulle put in two goals in the first half.  He was assisted by both Jaden August and Matt Deter on the scores. August also ripped a shot to add to the Pirates’ lead. At halftime the Pirates were up with a score of 3-0.  The Bulldogs did their best to respond by receiving a penalty kick early in the second half of play. The kick was true and cut the lead to two goals. However, the momentum would swing back in the Pirates favor as Jaden August would put in another goal. Bluffton’s defense would hold the score at 4-1 as the Pirates won their first game of the year. Other top defenders included Jackson Bush (3 steals, 4 interceptions), Matthew Suderman (4 steals, 5 interceptions), and David Yoder (3 steals, 3 interceptions).

Coming back home after three road games for the BHS boys was a great feeling.  Their offense was clicking on all cylinders as shot after shot rained down upon the Defiance defense. However, it was to no avail as all seven first half shots missed their mark.  This did not deter the boys as they responded in kind at the start of the second half.  Jaden August sparked the team by putting a penalty kick into the back of the net. This would be the first of three goals to come by the senior captain.  August was not alone in scoring as Jeremy Enneking both shot and chipped balls over the goalkeeper to give the Pirates an easy 5-0 win over the Defiance Bulldogs.  Assists of these goals belong to David Yoder and Lucas Harnish, among others. Also, incredible defense was played by both Jackson Bush (3 steals, 2 interceptions) and Fred Freeman (9 saves).

Also, the BHS JV won their game at Ada with a score of 2-1 and, unfortunately, lost to the Defiance Bulldogs 3-0. Both varsity and JV have a busy schedule ahead as they play at Wapak September 8th and at LCC on the 10th. Both of these games will start at 5 p.m. for JV and 7 p.m. for varsity. On September the 12th the boys have a home soccer game against Bath beginning at  11 a.m. for JV and 1 p.m. for varsity.
